HK Legal Fellowship: Spring & Summer 2022

Hong Kong Spring Semester and Summer Legal Fellowships 2022

Justice Without Borders (“JWB”) is welcoming applications for the Spring Semester and Summer Legal Fellowship programs at our Hong Kong Office in 2022.

About Justice Without Borders

JWB is a regional non-profit organisation that supports migrant workers who have been victims of labour exploitation or abuse to seek fair compensation, even after they return home. With offices in Hong Kong, Indonesia and Singapore, we connect clients with pro bono lawyers and facilitate cross-border legal support to ensure access to justice for vulnerable migrant domestic workers, wherever they are.

We have successfully supported our clients to pursue a wide range of legal claims in Hong Kong, including but not limited to unpaid wages, disability discrimination, illegal agency fees, and more. We also secured a groundbreaking court decision at the Labour Tribunal, establishing precedent to allow claimants to attend proceedings through video conferencing facilities from abroad. Every day, we develop and pursue strategic litigation that will enable more migrant workers to pursue cross-border claims from Indonesia and the Philippines.

What our Fellows will be doing

Legal Fellows will engage in legal projects on behalf of migrant domestic workers who have been victims of labour and financial exploitation, discrimination, or survivors of abuse. As a Fellow, you will take an active role in one or more projects, including preparing cases for litigation, conducting strategic legal research, and preparing and participating in training workshops. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with our colleagues and partners across Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore.

Time Commitment

We are looking for student volunteers who are passionate about access to justice for migrant domestic workers to join us part-time (around 10-15 hours per week) or full-time.
