Since the opening of our Hong Kong office in 2016, JWB has paved the way for cross-border access to justice for migrant domestic workers returning home to Indonesia and the Philippines. Over the years, we’ve closed over 30 cross-border cases and supported 4 virtual hearings in the Hong Kong courts, proving time and again that access to justice should be afforded to all migrants even after returning home.
To crystallise our key learnings from conducting cross-border litigation over the years, JWB has partnered with Herbert Smith Freehills to produce ‘Just Compensation: A Toolkit for Cross-Border Access to Justice for Migrant Domestic Workers in Hong Kong’. The Toolkit is a compilation of the resources we find most helpful for introducing lawyers to our work, including: practice tips for working with vulnerable clients, an overview of avenues for legal redress, case learnings from the ground, and a Precedent Bank of sample materials and templates for conducting cross-border claims.
The Toolkit was the product of countless hours of work by pro bono lawyers, law students and other volunteers. Please consider a donation in support of JWB’s programmes for migrant workers when you download the Toolkit.
